After I got home from work, I went in the coop to feed the birds and collect eggs. Two hens were laying in the nests, so I quietly went to work around them.
Years ago, when I got my first batch of hens I stared intently at one hen who was laying for something like 20 minutes before I gave up. I was so interested in the process and for some reason I really wanted to see a hen lay an egg. Why – I don’t know. It was something new, I guess.
Today, I happened to be looking right at the hen as she stood up and laid the egg. It was simultaneously cool and really weird and I’m very glad I was able to see it, but I don’t feel the need to see it ever again.
I took a nap afterwards. I had intended to get some seeds planted in the garden, but I was absolutely exhausted. I actually should be getting ready for bed now, but I wanted to stop to get this written down for my online memory bank.
